Features

Polaris Semiconductor’s pioneering technology enables DC power management with the low noise, compactness and simplicity advantages of linear regulators but with dramatically higher efficiency as well as boost functionality. This entirely linear technology eliminates the EMI effects associated with switching alternatives, simplifying circuit design, PCB layout and reducing risks of a costly redesign. Polaris Semiconductor voltage regulators support even the most demanding, low-noise applications, including RF circuits, precision sensing, scientific instrumentation, low-noise imaging, medical devices, and many more. Radiation tolerant versions also suit demanding applications in harsh environments. The inductor-less, switching-free topology uses photons generated within proprietary optocoupler chips to boost input voltage with high efficiency. This simplifies thermal design and reduces electrical losses, increasing system performance without introducing noise and footprint tradeoffs.

DC Boost Voltage Regulators

Core Values

Pure DC Boost Regulation

Polaris Semiconductor has developed the world’s first efficient switching-free boost regulator. These products typically deliver peak conversion efficiency >65%, creating new application opportunities for linear regulators—bringing their simplicity, low-noise, and minimal BoM to the realm of boost converters.

Ultra-High PSRR & Low Noise

Polaris Semiconductor voltage regulators leverage a proprietary photonic technology that enables the clean, ripple-free output of a linear regulator but with much higher efficiency. This technology can match the noise specifications of the best available linear regulators and help reduce solution size, BoM and design complexity in many applications.

Minimal Footprint and BoM

Polaris Semiconductor voltage regulators require no inductors and only a handful of small passives to operate. Their QFN packages are compact (36-49mm² area) and low profile (0.8mm height), making them ideal for space constrained applications with demanding power integrity requirements.

Understanding our Boost Regulator Products

Our boost voltage regulators feature a high-performance low drop-out (LDO) linear regulator IC, co-packaged with our patented high-efficiency PV-output optocouplers. The photovoltaic array acts to boost the output voltage at the output above the input voltage without the use of switching. The device retains the advantages of conventional LDOs, including tightly regulated and low-noise output voltages, highly effective input ripple rejection, a small footprint and component count, and a range of robust protection and functionality features. Refer to the boost regulator product summary to learn about the unique attributes of our boost converter.

Application Optimization

Our boost regulators serve diverse application needs. In precision instrumentation, low-noise analog circuits, and RF systems, they provide essential voltage boost capability without introducing switching noise. They also offer an elegant solution where engineers seek voltage boost functionality without the complexity and EMI challenges of switching regulators. The minimal bill of materials and straightforward implementation make these devices particularly attractive for space-constrained designs and projects prioritizing simplified power management.
