About Us

Our Story

Polaris Semiconductor is a fabless startup based in Northern Virginia. With the support of the National Science Foundation, US Department of Defense and Virginia Innovation Partnership Corporation, Polaris Semiconductor has demonstrated groundbreaking DC power management prototypes for the most demanding applications.

Founder Matthew Lumb has 15 years of experience in startup, university and national lab R&D environments, developing advanced semiconductor devices and simulation software tools.

CTO Kenneth Schmieder has over a decade of experience directing R&D that spans basic science through advanced technical demonstrations.  Kenneth has also served in leadership roles within US Government technology working groups.

Our technology was invented while Dr. Lumb was conducting semiconductor device research at the George Washington University and awarded first prize in the 2019 GWU Technology Commercialization Office Pitch Competition. Since then, our technology has been developed with the support of several federal and state grants, maturing to advanced, commercial prototypes being tested in relevant environments.
